Interceptor

7 Rue de Thorigny, 75003 Paris 20 October 2025 - 25 January 2026
Overview
7 Rue de Thorigny, 75003 Paris 6pm - 9pm
Interceptor presents a new body of work by Alfie Rouy that explores the subtle convergence of spirituality, phenomenology, and abstraction. Rather than representing the external world, Rouy’s paintings emerge from performative, meditative processes, becoming traces of embodied action, energy, and transformation. Each canvas records a moment of presence —an intuitive negotiation between control and release - where gesture operates as both movement and reflection.

The exhibition’s title points to a fragile threshold: a meeting place where opposing forces such as chaos and order, simplicity and complexity, intersect and briefly find equilibrium. Through rhythmic forms, luminous color relationships, and fluid spatial tensions, Rouy’s works invite viewers into a contemplative environment that unfolds as a unified experience rather than a series of isolated images. Together, the paintings encourage a pause within contemporary noise, suggesting that balance can arise from contradiction and that abstraction can function as a portal toward clarity, connection, and heightened awareness.

The exhibition features new works by Alfie Rouy, situating his practice within the delicat intersection of spirituality, phenomenology, and abstraction. Rouy’s canvases do not depict the visible world, but rather record moments of performative meditation with each work becoming a trace of energy, presence, and transformation.

The title Interceptor encapsulates the conceptual core of the exhibition. It describes the meeting point where opposing forces - simplicity and complexity, chaos and order - collide and achieve a fragile equilibrium. The word suggests an act of convergence, a moment where currents of energy and thought intersect and transform. Rouy embraces this tension not as a source of conflict, but as a possibility for harmony. His works unfold as gestures of balance, guiding viewers toward contemplation in a world often filled with noise.

Alfie Rouy’s process is deeply embodied. The artist mentions: “In creation I use my whole body as though it’s the brush and sometimes I use my fingers to wipe it away…I find myself almost dancing with the painting as it gets to its final stages, as it’s a release of intuition in the given moment”. From this ritualized state of flow emerge forms that oscillate between tension and release: orbital rhythms, smooth forms, and luminous contrasts of color. Thepaintings are not simply visual compositions, but portals into a space where intuition and rationality merge.

Viewed together, the works function as more than isolated images. The exhibition itself becomes an environment where perception, interconnectedness, and rhythm are explored as facets of a singular existence. Each painting anchors the viewer in the present moment while simultaneously pointing to something beyond, suggesting that within chaos lies balance, and within complexity lies simplicity.

Ultimately, the exhibition is an invitation to pause, to sense, and to experience the fragile yet
vital harmony born from the intersection of opposites. In doing so, it reaffirms art’s potential
to act as a catalyst for presence, clarity, and resonance amidst the uncertainty of the contemporary world.
