Giulnara Fatullaeva
Born in 1990 in Abakan, Russia. Lives and works in Paris.
Gulnara Fatullaeva is a multidisciplinary artist based in Paris whose work explores the psychological impact of childhood trauma, particularly through the lens of dissociation – a state where body and consciousness disconnect. Drawing from her background in costume design, textile innovation, and contemporary art, she creates visually charged compositions that blend personal narrative with conceptual depth. In her series Parallel Worlds, Fatullaeva uses distorted self-portraits placed within mirrored spheres to portray the fragmented perception of the body during dissociative episodes, transforming private memories into abstracted, figurative forms.
Her paintings depict isolated, distorted figures autonomous beings that seem to exist in a separate reality symbolizing the disconnection between self and surroundings. Through this, she examines the impossibility of communication between the inner self and the external world in moments of psychological rupture. Giulnara Fatullaeva’s work is both a personal search for integration and an attempt to de-stigmatize mental health struggles, raising questions about the nature of trauma, memory, and whether unity of body and mind can be regained through art.
